"I went in thinking that I would learn new information and as soon as I took the first class, I realized that I would learn way more than I thought that I would." – Ballet Class Series student
Master Classes: The focus of this program is master classes led by teachers from the major ballet companies performing at the Kennedy Center each season. Finalists attend all ballet master classes; alternates are guaranteed attendance in at least four of the ballet master classes. These classes are typically taught by company members such as ballet masters/mistresses, principal or soloist dancers, company teachers, and, occasionally, artistic directors; instructors are determined by each company. All classes with The Suzanne Farrell Ballet are taught by Ms. Farrell.
Working Rehearsals (optional): Students will also have the opportunity to attend working rehearsals for performances by select ballet and dance companies at the Kennedy Center.
Contemporary Dance Master Classes (optional, for an additional fee): In addition to the required ballet master classes, students are invited to attend contemporary dance master classes led by company members from companies performing at the Kennedy Center this season. These classes are designed for adult intermediate to advanced dancers in the general public; a small, limited number of spaces are reserved for Ballet Class Series students.
